Appreciating Ramadan
Written by: Seada
Ramadan is a special month of the Islamic calendar. It is the time where Muslims observe the act of fasting. This is a sacrifice of worldly desires in order to become God-conscious. What does being God-conscious mean to you?
To me, it means starting each fast by setting the right intentions. This morning, I struggled to lift my tired body from my comfortable bed. The alarm rang three different times; each time, I hit snooze, hoping to gain five additional minutes of sleep. By 2:50 am, I collected my sleepy thoughts and tired body and simply asked God to permit me to enjoy suhoor (the pre-dawn meal). Within minutes, I managed to collect sufficient amounts of energy to move out of my bed and make my way to the kitchen.
The power of intention moves us from negative thoughts and unnecessary distraction to moments of progress and success. It is not enough to verbalize intentions; we must act upon them to create change. When we understand the reason behind our actions, our perspective changes.
Let’s make the intention to appreciate Ramadan in 5 simple ways:
- Show gratitude
- Read up on Ramadan
- Set good intentions
- Be God-conscious
- Try your best
May this month shower us with peace and blessings.
With love,
Seada
