Chapter #18: Honor

وَالَّذِينَ يَرْمُونَ الْمُحْصَنَاتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَأْتُوا بِأَرْبَعَةِ شُهَدَاءَ فَاجْلِدُوهُمْ ثَمَانِينَ جَلْدَةً وَلَا تَقْبَلُوا لَهُمْ شَهَادَةً أَبَدًا ۚ وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْفَاسِقُونَ{4} إِلَّا الَّذِينَ تَابُوا مِنْ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ وَأَصْلَحُوا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ {5}

 “And those who accuse chaste women and then do not produce four witnesses – lash them with eighty lashes and do not accept from them testimony ever after. And those are the defiantly disobedient,{4} Except for those who repent thereafter and reform, for indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. {5}” [Sahih International][24:4-5]

Accusing a woman for something that hits her honor in any way shape or form is a HUGE sin. It’s never okay. And these accusation range from accusing her of speaking to a non-mahram to beyond that. Accusing a woman of something so serious like that has a harsh punishment, as you can see in the verse. So be aware when you speak ill of a womans honor and remember God will NOT let it slide.

In today’s “gossip,” it’s become something so easy to accuse a girl for doing something like that and that needs to stop immediately, for this is what the verse is referring to. You’re hitting her honor, and that’s a huge deal that God will not forget and you will be accounted for it. In this life or the next. So repent and end this type of “gossip”.
