Forgiveness

Forgiveness

Written by: Chereen

Maybe nobody told you that forgiveness is not for giving your heart back to what hurt you and what had the potential to destroy you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They might not have mentioned that forgiveness is a choice you make between you and yourself, so that you may regain your peace of mind. Telling someone you forgive them is a choice you get to make.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You can forgive and move forward, without taking the shattered pieces that scrape at the bottom of your heart and make it bleed each time you hit pause and remember. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But maybe it’s okay to remember occasionally without feeling controlled by the pain, so that forgiveness does not do a double take. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And if you are being told to forgive, tell them that forgiveness is a process that takes time. Remind them that you are forgiving but your heart deserves to heal and that might take a while. Tell them they might not hear back from you and it’s fine, because you believe in forgiveness.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Maybe nobody told you forgiveness isn’t always for giving yourself back to toxic conversations that leave you with an empty cup. Sometimes forgiveness is about taking back your happiness and freeing your mind.
