Surah Baqarah, verse 286
لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا ۚ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا مَا اكْتَسَبَتْ ۗ رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِن نَّسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ ۖ وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا ۚ أَنتَ مَوْلَانَا فَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ
“Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. “Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.””
The last verse of Surah Baqarah & it’s so profound!
Allah has created each one of us so perfectly, He knows us inside out, and He has allowed us obstacles in our life that test us so uniquely to our own characteristics. Every test we face is designed not to break us, but to teach us. It is only through hardship that we begin to understand our internal limits – what we can endure and the strengths we possess.
Our tests are our means of gaining closeness to Allah, because fundamentally they teach us of our own vulnerability and Allah’s Might.
The dua that is revealed here seems to tie in so perfectly with our journey through trials; we always falter – but Allah reminds us that He is our protector and He is the forgiver – no matter the faltering, He is always awaiting our return to Him.
