Quranic Reflections Series Gratitude

Surah Al Ar’af, verse 10

وَلَقَدْ مَكَّنَّاكُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَجَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ فِيهَا مَعَايِشَ ۗ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَشْكُرُونَ

“And We have certainly established you upon the earth and made for you therein ways of livelihood. Little are you grateful.”

There are always more things to be grateful for than not.

We have so much in the way of means in this life, but we seem to get consumed by that which we lack.

Allah in His Infinite Wisdom knows His creation; He knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows that irrespective of what we possess – we will always have a need for more – and it is this innate human weakness that shaytan plays so heavily upon.

We let shaytan lead us in our pursuit of chasing our wants, and so, we become heedless in our gratitude for what we already possess.

So, take a moment right now, and forget about what you wish you had, and remind yourself of what you do have.

Thank Allah, from the depths of your heart for it.
