Ramadan Challenge: Chapter #17 – And to Him we shall return

Written by: Barah

“Every soul will taste death. And We test you with evil and with good as trial; and to Us you will be returned.” [21:35][Sahih International]

This life isn’t everlasting. It comes to an end. Every soul will reach its appointed time. This verse reminds us of the fact that each one of us will die, eventually. It also helped the prophet (s) get through his mission of guiding people without fearing those who were trying to hurt him, reminding him that everyone would eventually have to deal with the consequences of their actions.

This leads us to the second point this verse makes: God tests us throughout this life. He tests us with giving us good things as well as bad things, to see our reaction to these tests. If given wealth or power, will we become overly proud? Humble? Cruel? Salves to this world? Grateful to the almighty? And if given hardship and/or difficulties, will that make us ungrateful? Lawful? Low-spirited?

Our final destination is to Him. We must be ready to face Him and meet Him. May God grant us the strength to be from those who are ready to meet the Almighty with a smile on our faces.
